FIRE in SWINE’S GREEN: Fire broke out in premises owned by Mrs Warren , who lives in one of the
cottages adjoining occupied by Mrs Ling. The outbuildings caught fire, but were close to the houses,
and the woodwork on the east gable caught fire, but was put out. The Fire Brigade arrived, but their
hose would not reach the nearest main in St George’s Road. Three wells in the neighbourhood were
used, filling hundreds of pails. Mr Ling knocked down some boarding adjoining Mr Spratt’s Garden.
